P5b Final Weeks of Term

In the last few weeks of term we finished off our space topic and revisited looking at electricity.  Using copper coins, zinc washers and a salt/ vinegar solution we were able to build a cell to light a LED light.  We were lucky that most groups were successful and able to get the bulb to light.

We also had a go at building circuits.

As part of our space topic we made some of the star constellations.

Lastly we used the straws to build our own rocket.

One of our aims on our Eco Action plan is to reduce, reuse and recycle.  As part of this the Eco committee have set a challenge over the Easter break for pupils to upcycle some of their rubbish into something useful.  We look forward to seeing what you can make and have fun with this challenge.  Good luck!

Completing our Space topic

Last week P5a finished their space topic by studying images of the International Space Station and then creating their own version of the interior. They worked in small groups. Here are some of their creations.

Showcase and Enterprise

Showcase     It has been a busy few weeks for p6. We worked very hard to put on our Showcase, focussing on article 28 and 29 of the UNCRC exploring our right to an education and how eduction should enhance our skills and talents. We focussed on all the skills and talents that we have developed and how we must persevere and never give up, we got to showcase all the things that make us the very best ‘me’ . We enjoyed singing and dancing and presenting our learning.
it was lovely to see the children’s confidence grow!

Enterprise. Then it was time to focus on our enterprise project!   We took part in the Virgin money ‘make £5 grow’ challenge. We had to work in teams to come up with a ‘business’ we decided on an Easter Fayre where we could buy things to make and sell at our stalls. This took a lot of teamwork and cooperation as well as working on our budgeting and marketing skills. The aim was to make a profit and after hosting our very busy Easter Fayre this week, we achieved our goal and after paying back Virgin Money, we made a profit of over £550!  A fantastic achievement after a lot of hard work!

Success at orienteering!

Primary 5 pupils have been learning about orienteering within the school grounds. The lessons included learning about grid references, reading compass point and following different maps. The winners from each class had their photograph taken holding a carabiner donated by Blairvadach Outdoor Centre to celebrate their 50 year anniversary. Everyone enjoyed the learning outdoors.

P5b Art

This term in art P5B have been focussing on tints, tones and shades. We started by using pencils to try to create different tones on everyday objects and then made our own pattern which we coloured in using different tones. It was really tricky especially with the lighter tones to make them appear different but we ended up with lots of great results.

We then moved on to tints and shades this time we used paints to produce the different colours. 🖌️🎨
